News anchor on Biden interview: 'I'm a journalist' - CNN.com
Barbara West: You may recognize this famous quote. "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." That's from Karl Marx. How is Sen. Obama not being a Marxist if he's intending to spread the wealth around?
What a ridiculous question.
I think I'm a Marxist. If it were "From each according to their ability and to each according to their need" then shouldn't the Wall Street executives and bankers pushing toxic loans be earning minimum wage (their need) when their ability is negative? But that I could negotiate a golden parachute that allows me to take millions away if I'm so bad that my company needs to fire me with cause?
When historically the wealthy are paying less in taxes than ever before, I agree with Senator Biden. Are your serious? Wealth has been distributed - to the top 1 percent.

Majora Carter | Gristmill: The environmental news blog | Grist
I was inspired by Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention but I was backing Edwards because he wouldn't give corporations a seat at the decision table. I was hoping for an Edwards/Obama ticket with 8 years for Edwards and the next 8 with Obama. With Edwards out I'm for Obama.
Here is another inspiring speaker that should have a place in the country's decision making.

The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard
A must see:
The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard
What is the Story of Stuff?
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

"Pregnant Woman's Tasering Probed"
From the article:
Redden, according to Etter, had come to the police station to ask police to take custody of her child. When officer Michael Wilmer asked why, the woman reportedly would only say that "she's tired of playing games" with the baby's father. "At this point, they had a little more discussion that went nowhere," Etter said, recounting the incident. "She says, 'I'm leaving.'" Etter, who repeatedly emphasized to ABC News that Wilmer had no idea the Valreca was pregnant, said that the officer then explained that she could not leave without further explanation. He took hold of the child with one arm, Etter said, and pushed the woman down with the other. When a second officer arrived, Wilmer handed over the 1-year-old and attempted to handcuff Valreca. She began to resist, Etter said, at which point he "employed what is called a 'drive stun'" on the back of her neck.
This tells me "don't go into a police station".
It's time to ban tasers. The U.N. has described tasering as torture. I read an account of what it is like to be tasered by someone who was tasered and it's an experience I wouldn't want to go through. I saw a man tasered for refusing to sign a ticket and tried to point to a spee limit sign. Two taser deaths in Canada and four in the U.S. in a week. A Polish man tasered mainly because he didn't understand English.
Cops are afraid, and rightly so in this messed up society. But a taser being given as a non-lethal weapon causes them to resort to tasering when there is no reason.

Dodd Singlehandedly Stops Bush's Domestic Spying Bill
I would like to personally thank my senator from Connecticut, Chris Dodd, for his action against immunity for the communications companies that cooperated with the Bush administration illegally, without a warrant or FISA court approval. Finally - some good news for the day.
Family values belong in the family not in politics. My values are my own and I don't want anyone else's forced on me. Religion can't do it because it has no force other than a vague threat of hell. Government can try to do it with laws but that disenfranchises a huge number of the people. I believe having my own values is a constitutional right.

When is a church not a church?
When it's not a catholic church.
OK, this really gets my goat. I'm a recovered catholic. I attend a Unitarian Universalist meeting house (not a church) when I attend anything. I consider myself pagan and Druid (the educated at that time). Christianity pushers are snake oil salesman. Give me your money and I promise you everything. Be happy with your poverty and you will get your rewards later. Are you sure? Have faith. Have faith in an organization that killed anyone who didn't have faith. That destroyed knowledge because it didn't match their teachings. Infallible pope? Sun revolving around the Earth and no apology to Galileo until he was dead a few hundred years. Virgin birth?...Yeah sure. Try pulling that today. Papal infallibility? Have you read what some of these demented despots have done? Killing millions of midwifes and herbalists as witches. I'll stick with the "old time religions", anything that predated the old testament. Yes, pagans were ignorant, not stupid. They explained things with the best explanations they had. When science came along they used it to update. Tracking the distant heavens while christians were still claiming the sun revolved around the Earth.

It's the 4th of July and I woke up depressed. I remember being proud when I saw our flag go by, holding my hand over my heart, or while serving my country, saluting. I can no longer be a proud American because of the depths of depravity that this corrupt administration has taken us.

Another Reason to IMPEACH, the Weasel Pardon of Libby
Sent to me by The Pen
Many of you have written to ask us when we were going to call for theimpeachment of Bush as well as Cheney. Of course we have done Bushimpeachment action pages before, and were focusing on Cheney on thepremise that he was not only the least popular, but also the mostguilty. But now Bush has thrown himself in the middle of the worst ofthe Cheney scandals, and so we have launched a new action pagecalling for the impeachment of them both.IMPEACH BOTH: http://www.usalone.com/impeach_both.phpIf you were looking to submit something to reiterate your call forimpeachment, please submit the page above as this is a NEW jointaction. The ink was barely dry on the order DENYING bail on appeal toconvicted White House felon Scooter Libby, before president Bushintervened to "commute" his sentence. It is very well possible thatNEVER before in the history of American jurisprudence had anyonesentenced to prison received such a commutation BEFORE serving asingle day of that sentence.Cheney and Bush conspired together to give Libby an escape hatch. This was their contingency plan all along, to game our legal systemwith every frivolous defense imaginable, knowing all along they wouldsubvert justice in the end to whatever extent necessary. Who are thepeople celebrating this gross miscarriage of justice, as they danceon the grave of our Constitution?IMPEACH BOTH: http://www.usalone.com/impeach_both.phpThe Department of Justice's own guidelines specify that to apply fora commutation a convict MUST first have started to serve theirsentence AND have abandoned all appeals. Scooter Libby has doneneither. Bush has again abused his office to shield Cheney andhimself from further exposure of their own impeachable offenses, aswould happen were Libby finally compelled to testify truthfully, aswas Judith Miller by her own incarceration. This is nothing but a weasel pardon, a premeditated obstruction ofjustice. Indeed, there is nothing to prevent Bush from furthergranting Libby a full pardon in January of 2009, as he no doubt PLANSon doing, UNLESS both he and Cheney are impeached first. More thansufficient evidence of their constitutional crimes is already amatter of public record. There is no oversight they have notunilaterally defied. And now this, from an execution happy governorof Texas who once MOCKED a woman who begged him only for life inprison.Bush asserts that the Libby prison sentence was excessive. But willhe change the law and the guidelines which fairly call for thesentence handed down based on the severity of Libby's crimes? No hewill not. Instead with the equivalent of a signing statement he hasagain selectively nullified the will of the people and theirrepresentatives in Congress. The only thing excessive here is the wayCheney and Bush continue to shred the Constitution.Once again there has been no accountability. Whatever fine was leftin place will be paid from the millions and millions in Libby'sdefense slush fund, or else he get some fat consultant job from aright wing contributor who that just happens to pay him the entiresum and more. He'll probably make a tidy profit on the whole affair. But this is all yet more gasoline on the fire of the rapidlyexpanding impeachment movement. Votes in the National CheneyImpeachment Poll were already more than 80,000 as to Cheney standingalone. Their administration is a walking constitutional crisis thatcan no longer be avoided.IMPEACH BOTH: http://www.usalone.com/impeach_both.phpThere is one and only one remedy, that can't be vetoed, signed awayor tossed out by the courts, and that is impeachment.
