For a free and accessible internet
Don't Let AT&T Ruin the Internet
The FCC is about to auction off a significant chunk of our public airwaves to the giant telecom companies -- AT&T and Verizon -- who want to make our Internet less free. The official comment period is closing May 30th, but you can still urge key commissioners directly to stop ATT and Verizon from ruining our Internet before it's too late.
The upcoming auction of the 700 megahertz slice of the spectrum concerns invaluable frequencies that are particularly well suited to wireless broadband because they can easily pass through walls. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to save room on the spectrum for universal broadband access, and to apply the rules of Net Neutrality to our mobile phones as well as our Internet.
But phone and cable lobbyists are currently pressuring the FCC to sell companies like AT&T and Verizon our airwaves -- in a flawed auction process -- so they can hoard this valuable spectrum, and stifle competitive and cheaper alternatives to their established networks.
Not only has Big Telecom facilitated illegal Bush administration wiretapping of American citizens, but they refuse to open their networks to competitive applications and services. They lobby Washington to stifle new innovations like Internet phone service and to destroy Net Neutrality, the one principle that protects equal opportunity and free choice on the Web. We need to end their stranglehold and demand better Internet and mobile services for everyone.
Tell the FCC: use public airwaves for the public good instead of giving away our wireless Internet to these price-gouging, privacy violating, anti-Net-Neutrality giants.

I think I have the answer to the evangelicals political problem. They say "believe in god" and "trust god" How about "vote for god". They can do it as a write in vote. This way they would do no harm. The only good that came out of that was to prove Newt Gengrich was wrong when he said "If the Soviet empire still existed, I'd be terrified. The fact is, we can afford a fairly ignorant presidency now.".

Saving energy
Simple solutions can save a lot of energy.
I have a device called a Kill-A-Watt which I used to measure energy usage for about everything in the house. After measuring the electricity that is used by devices that are powered off I put power strips that I can turn off when I'm not using things like TV, modems, cable boxes, VCR's, DVD players. They save a lot of wasted power.
In Connecticut, I get green electricity from Sterling Planet.

For the Pagans among us
Margot Adler
"Lessons from the Pagan and Earth Religions in a World of Religious Violence."
In contemporary Pagan and earth-based religions, the "sacred" is seen as all around us. It is not above us or out of reach; it is not something only accessed by death. It resides in the world, in the living and the doing of life, in the body, and in the earth. Contemporary Pagans believe there is an ecstatic connection among all beings that can be felt in our daily lives and accessed more deeply through joyous ritual, song, and dance. Our modern world is plagued by false dichotomies: splits of mind and body, technology and nature, men and women, dark and light, play and seriousness, joy and reverence. Yet there are at least a million contemporary Pagans worldwide who are taking a different path. Many are women who have discovered the ancient goddesses and have revived an ancient spirituality - looking back to a time, whether fact or metaphor, where women were valued as equal partners and where human beings were seen as an important part, but only a part, of the cosmic dance. There are more contemporary Pagans in the U.S. today than Quakers or U.S. based Bahais. There are as many in the U.S. as there are Unitarian Universalists. In a world increasingly defined by religious wars, the earth religions do not proselytize; they are not based on scriptures or the words of prophets but rather on seasonal ceremonies: on what people "do", not what they "believe." These traditions have gifts to give us. They allow us to change our perceptions of "reality" and give us a pathway to navigate through these dark times."

"Beware - the class war"
"At the very same time lawmakers lie about who is actually filing lawsuits and claim they want to stop 'lawsuit abuse,' they are actually granting corporations special privileges to file even more lawsuits. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) quietly established special courts where foreign companies can sue U.S. federal and state governments for compensation when their laws protecting health, labor or environmental standards cut into corporate profits. One company, for instance, sought nearly $1 billion from California (more than 1 percent of the state's entire budget) as compensation for a state law that prohibited the use of an environmentally hazardous gasoline additive. In all, Big Business has used these special tribunals to force American taxpayers to hand over $1.8 billion."

Attempted Abortion Clinic Bombing, and Hate Speech From The Right
The people doing this call themselves Christians. This is contrary to any teaching that I know of in the bible. I mean the new testament. Although I was raised Catholic I didn't listen that closely. I was busy watching to see if a nun was going to get me. This was back in the 50's and the church was scary, in latin. I do think I got the gist of it though. You are supposed to do good. You are not supposed to do wrong. Killing was at the top of the 10 wrongs even in the crazy old testament.

The rise and fall of America's political right
This is well written and I agree.
AlterNet: Blogs: PEEK: The rise and fall of America's political right
A while back I wrote a blog on TPM asking Democratic Progressives to compromise to get the funding bill for Iraq with a time line passed. They compromised. Now that Bush has vetoed the bill, unwilling to reason, I want no more compromise. If the time lines are taken out of the bill, progressives should vote against it. Send back the same bill. It's time to take control and de-fund the war.
Neo-cons, corporations and religion must be driven out of politics and science!

Panel grants immunity to Gonzales aide - Yahoo! News
I hope she has something to say that will remove some of the corrupt administration. I got excited about the investigation of Rove yesterday. Today, reading some of the more informed blogs, I found out that the investigation was being headed by a Bush Republican. Maybe Goodling will sing.

Republican use of the English language
Every day I hear about the "arbitrary" timetable for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq that Bush and his minions complain about. The decision to "stay the course" is the real arbitrary policy. Bush lacks intelligence and has a very limited vocabulary. Reading the dumb things he has said would be funny if he were not in such a powerful position. I would hope that one of his aides would explain the big words to him but unfortunately it must be his aides who come up with this dishonest tactic of spinning English to suit their purpose. He doesn't have the brains to do it himself.
IMPEACH BUSH!!
Here's the definition:
Arbitrary
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Choices and actions are considered to be arbitrary when they are done not by means of any underlying principle or logic, but by whim or some decidedly illogical formula. For example, rearranging, for no reason, the letters of the alphabet so the letters appear in a staggered fashion (e.g. ac-bd-eg-fh). If there was a direct purpose in doing so, such as to make a better alphabet, then it would not be considered arbitrary."
